We are seeking a strategic and highly hands-on VP of Finance to join our rapidly growing team as our first full-time finance hire reporting to the CEO. Initially, you will directly manage all aspects of finance and accounting, from day-to-day operations to strategic financial planning. As we scale, you will have the opportunity to build and lead a finance team. This role requires someone who can excel in both executing tasks and developing scalable systems and processes. You will be responsible for driving financial operations, implementing financial systems, and leading our first-year audit. You are known as a strategic financial person, in addition to your operational excellence. You understand how the financial position of the company impacts the future position and are able to drive strategic decision-making.  This is a high-impact role where you will play a key part in shaping Luma's financial future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
  • Use today’s financial position to make projections about the future and drive financial decision-making across the organization.
  • Ensure that the organization incorporates this financial lens as part of decision-making.
  • Drive the financial planning process, including the creation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Build financial forecasts from user and retention data up.
  • Optimize financial performance and resource allocation by analyzing compute and making clear recommendations for strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Accounting Operations:
  • Oversee and manage all accounting operations (financial reporting, revenue recognition, tax, month end close, etc).
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Lead preparation and execution of first-year audit.
  • Manage external consultants. 

  • Cash and Revenue Management:
  • Manage cash flow, including payables, receivables, and treasury functions.
  • Own revenue operations and reporting.

  • Investor Relations & Fundraising:
  • Lead due diligence processes and provide financial insights to potential investors.

  • Equity:
  • Oversee equity-related activities, including stock option plans, 409a valuations, and option exercises.

  • Systems & Processes:
  • Build and automate scalable financial systems and processes (e.g., transition from QuickBooks to NetSuite).
  • Implement and maintain ERP systems and other software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Stripe).

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role, with a track record of managing first-year audits, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience with financial reporting and compliance. 
  • Proven experience building and scaling finance teams and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, particularly Excel / Google Sheets.
  • Experience with software and ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Stripe, etc.)
  • CPA, Big 4 experience, or equivalent.
  • Strategic financial experience from Investment Banking or Private Equity. Hands on M&A experience is a plus.
