Senior Data Scientist

Can you develop scalable data science solutions?

Are you collaborative and willing to learn?

About our Team

In Research Data Platform (RDP), we are describing the world of scientific research as accurately as possible by profiling a wide range of entities, from People and Organizations to research artefacts such as Publications and Grants. Our entity-linking and disambiguation systems integrate data from a diverse set of sources that include millions of research articles to demonstrate market leading performance. The RDP team is large, full of talented people, and highly cross-functional and collaborative: As a data scientist, you will be working together with software engineers, analysts, product managers, and architects on selected areas of focus, and be part of the wider RDP Data Science team.

About the Role

Your focus will be on improving the quality of our entity extraction and linking capabilities around funding-related data such as announced funding opportunities and awarded grants or scholarships, and do this for a wide range of science funders. Additionally, you support data science initiatives beyond the funding domain. With data quality being vital to Elsevier’s success, the focus is on measuring and improving data quality and coverage. At the same time, the increasingly large volumes of data involved requires you to maintain and develop systems and models that scale well.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, planning, and successfully delivering complete data science projects independently, by working with colleagues in a cross-functional team and interacting with all stakeholders involved;
  • Improving quality, consistency, and coverage of extracted entities according to business needs and priorities set within RDP;
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies for entity extraction and linking;
  • Providing guidance on data-related initiatives and projects within RDP.

Requirements

  • Have hands-on experience with developing scalable data science solutions;
  • Have extensive experience working in a data science role with a proven track record of deliverables;
  • Have a formal qualification at least at MSc level in a quantitative field like computer science, computational linguistics, data science, machine learning, or equivalent;
  • Have demonstrable coding skills in Python or Java;
  • Have knowledge of statistical methods and applying machine learning techniques;
  • Have worked with linked data and related technologies.
