Position Specific Description

The Sr. Data Scientist coordinates and oversees the management of all types of data received into and going out of the corporate and project data stores, adhering to standard processes, procedures, and best practices. Responsible for ensuring consistent data management practices, acting as a liaison between the asset team and other data management entities. 

Knowledge 
•    Knowledge of data management practices and standards specific to upstream data. 
•    Knowledge of document management practices and standards. 
•    Oil and Gas industry experience. 
•    Experience with Oil and Gas Upstream technical applications especially relating to data loading, quality analysis, and extract and reporting. 
•    Experience with spatial data management and mapping projects. 
•    Database experience and familiarity with commonly used database languages. 
•    Linux/Unix and Windows OS and scripting experience. 

Skills 
•    A high degree of organizational skills and attention to detail. 
•    Ability to quickly learn, implement and effectively support new software products. 
•    Ability to implement data Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) workflows within new application platforms.

Primary Responsibilities 
•    Single Point of Contact (SPOC) responsible for all data needs of the assigned asset team or functional group. 
•    Works with team members to ensure that newly acquired data are quality controlled stored in corporate and project data stores and distributed properly, following E&P data management guidelines. 
•    Assists in identifying and resolving data quality issues, work with appropriate team to resolve issues. 
•    Ensures during data loading, data adheres to approved standards. 
•    This role is responsible for transform activities such as consolidating, converting, re-projecting, renumbering, re-binning, and interpolating existing data (e.g., Well logs, normalizing depths, etc.). 
 Runs quality assurance metrics. 
•    Works with vendors and other external entities to ensure that all qualified data are received in industry-standard formats. 
•    Identifies and resolve data issues in raw original format data as well as in corporate and project data stores, help determine the root cause of issues. 
•    Provides regular and user requested data cleanup according to quality assessment and approved business rules. 
•    Assists team member at end of projects with data archival, knowledge capture, deletions, and transfers to corporate repositories, as appropriate. 
•    Performs data consolidation of project databases. 
•    Retrieves data from either physical or electronic data stores. 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Certified Petroleum Data Analyst (CPDA™). 

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (i.e., “Big Data”).
