Senior Data Scientist-Charlotte, NC

EDN R&D data scientist serves four primary functions, as follows:

Advise product and process development scientists how to extract meaning and interpret data using personal leadership skills to develop to indirectly manage, mentor, and develop citizen analysts.

Lead the regional research units’ data analysis strategy including data governance program. Articulates the vision and roadmap for the exploitation of data as a valued asset including identifying unexplored areas of experimental opportunity.

Develop software solutions to cumulatively increase the ability of departmental scientists and technicians for product and process development challenges.

Extract data correlations, field map areas of experimental opportunity, and implement first principle scientific equations to enhance our modelling capabilities for polymer synthesis, formulated coating and binder application performance, and manufacturing scale-down.

Formula for Success:        

Contribute to product and process development activities within the scope of running activities to help project teams achieve their goals through data manipulations and interpretation, training to establish citizen data scientists, and tool development.

Advance the frontier of data modelling and prediction of polymer synthesis and formulated product application performance prediction through model development, field mapping explored and opportunistic areas of research within the teams and consolidate this path into the divisions’ digital roadmap.

Advance the state of the art of the business units’ knowledge of frontier data simulation and interpretation technology by fostering third party relationships, industry conferences, and literature. Reduce relevant means to industrial practice.

What we Look for in You:

Requirements:

Master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics or computer science with a focus on a related field including modelling and simulations, statistics, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, or applied data forecasting.

5+ years’ experience in industrial chemical manufacturing or related fields.

Technical skills must include:

Programming skills in Python or similar, data lake manipulation in Palantir Foundry suite or similar, statistical modelling and simulation software.

Ability to work in cross-functional teams handling exceptions and communications to champion the spirit of data-driven research.

Strong leadership skills will be essential as you indirectly manage, mentor, and develop citizen analysts, ensuring the right interpretation of data.
