The Position

The Lead Data Scientist AI/ML role, reports directly to the Senior Director of the corresponding research area. This position involves liaising with a diverse array of both internal and external stakeholders and team members across the United States, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.

In the role of Lead Data Scientist, you will leverage your expertise in causal inference and statistical machine learning to support therapeutic area specific activities and help improving the design and implementation of future trials.

Among your responsibilities there will be:

  • Implementation of state-of-the-art targeted learning techniques to support the design of new clinical trials where you will help creating new insights on personalized treatments and disease pathways to help our patients getting access to even better treatments.
  • Supporting and guiding the team on the choice of methods and implementations and help mentor team members.
  • Communicating with the stakeholders in other project and medical science teams and align on the expected outcomes and timelines.
  • Collaborating closely with other data scientists, medical specialists, and epidemiologists,
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to spearhead innovation and applying cutting-edge targeted learning techniques.

This is a hybrid role, based in our newly established offices in the heart of London.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role would come with strong background in mathematics and statistics, equivalent to a PhD level of knowledge and understanding. They would present significant experience in clinical or theoretical research, with a particular emphasis on causal inference and targeted learning / semi-parametric inference, together with and experienced in leading research projects and aligning with stakeholders on the expected outcomes and timelines.

To succeed in the role, you will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to drive innovation,
  • Applying estimators based on efficient influence functions, including (augmented) inverse probability weighting estimators or TMLE with stacked generalization and cross-fitting techniques
  • Working with longitudinal data and applying modern mediation analysis techniques
  • Analyzing event history data and clinical data
  • working with randomized designs, and in a pharmaceutical company 

It will be a strong advantage if you have:

  • Good programming skills in Python / R
  • Experience with agile ways of working, devops, version control, unit testing, and deployment
  • Proficiency in data integration and manipulation
