The Position:

The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for developing and implementing data science strategies and roadmaps to address business challenges and opportunities. Drive innovation by developing advanced statistical analysis, machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), or generative AI models and algorithms to provide actionable insights and solve business problems using data and AI. The Lead Data Scientist designs and implements ML models to extract insights from clinical and non-clinical data, stays updated with the latest trends in data science, and integrates innovative technologies into existing processes. Additionally, the Lead Data Scientist oversees the end-to-end data collection, analysis, and interpretation process to ensure high data quality and integrity, applies state-of-the-art methods in programming, statistics, ML, and visualization, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

You will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:

  • Strategic Development: Develop and drive data science strategies and roadmaps to address business challenges, leveraging advanced statistical analysis, ML, DL, or generative AI to provide actionable insights and solve complex problems.
  • Design and implement machine learning models and algorithms to extract actionable insights from diverse data sets, ensuring innovation and addressing business needs
  • Technological Integration: Keep abreast of the latest trends in data science, integrating innovative technologies into existing processes to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to propose ideas, solutions, and strategies for tackling business challenges, ensuring alignment with business and IT objectives.
  • Data Management and Compliance: Oversee the end-to-end process of data collection, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring high data quality and integrity. Apply state-of-the-art methods in programming, statistics, ML, and visualization to translate large data sources into business outcomes while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualification : 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, data science, information technology, mathematics, natural sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-9 years of experience in the data science domain, preferably 3-4 years within pharmaceutical/CRO organizations or the IT industry.
  • Expert knowledge of computer systems involved in clinical data management, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SAS, SQL, R, and Jupyter. Hands-on experience in machine learning and deep learning/generative AI.
  • Understanding of clinical data is preferred. Sound knowledge of business process analysis and design within the area of drug development.
  • Extensive experience with collaboration across professional and regional borders, participation in conferences and workshops, and demonstrated experience in project and stakeholder management.
  • Profound knowledge of GxP guidelines and regulatory activities within drug development.
  • Advanced knowledge of relational database systems and data models.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to facilitate agreement between multiple stakeholders to ensure smooth end-to-end processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and a quality mindset.

About the Department

Our Clinical Data Operations & Insights group is about 400 professionals spanning across India, Denmark, and North America. Data Management sits in Development where we manage clinical drug development worldwide, ensuring that the process lives up to uniform global standards, regulations, and business ethics while delivering viable products that make a difference to patients and ultimately benefit society. Our newly formed Data Review and Cleaning group sits within the Data Management & Centralised Data Review Department led from our Bengaluru site. The Data Review and Cleaning group has been set up to centralize and modernize the data review and cleaning processes, implement new methodologies, and develop innovative toolkits supporting the transformation.
