About the Role
As a Junior Data Scientist, you will be responsible to help senior team members in building Data Science Solutions for the assigned line of business. You will be required to do Exploratory Data analysis, statistical & Machine learning modelling, Correlation analysis to understand the data. You will work with Senior team members and stakeholders in Underwriting, Claims and Data Engineering teams to help in building Data Science Solutions. You must be willing to learn and use advanced analytical methods and data science techniques to help develop insight on trends to forecast in future as well as predictive analysis, helping improve the predictability and accuracy of costing the model. You will have a direct impact in helping steer the Data science solutions and ultimately the overall Business Unit's performance
About the team
The APM Data Science team comprised of a mix of highly experienced members already entrenched in advanced analytics and highly motivated newer members who thrives in a dynamic and fast learning environment. This team reports into the Chief Underwriting Officer and is part of Actuarial Portfolio Management Unit.
Main responsibilities
Data Understanding & Driving Insights
- Work with senior team members to help build a clear and independent view on the internal/external data along with effective visualizations and recommendations.
- Understand business requirement & translate details into impactful technical requirements.
Advanced Data Analytics
- Help and work with senior team members to build Data science solutions, involving:
- Develop, Validate, Deploy and Maintain ML Models
- Build interactive dashboards using Palantir Foundry
- Present your findings & convince business using explainability & other techniques.
- Willing to learn and use Gen AI techniques to develop insights and trends that can be used for risk selection or differentiation; and costing improvements.
About you
Professional experience
- A minimum of 1-4 years of experience in Data Science. Knowledge of big data technologies or platforms like Azure / Databricks / Palantir Foundry would be an additional advantage
- You have experience in – building Machine Learning models, predictive & statistical modelling, time series forecasting, regression, classification. Know-how of Gen AI & LLMs would be an additional advantage.
- You are reasonably familiar with building Data Engineering Pipelines & Data wrangling techniques.
Technical skills
- You have highly developed problem solving and analytical skills. You can translate the data insights into effective visualizations for high impact communication.
- You have applied these skills using real business data to develop insights and practical solutions.
- You have a good understanding/ willing to learn advanced ML methods and related hyperparameter tuning/ how to avoid overfitting techniques.
- You have statistical programming skills (e.g. Phyton, R for Data Science) & SQL
- You are able to quickly learn big data platforms like Azure Data bricks / Palantir Foundry

- You can articulate and communicate your work effectively and be comfortable in presenting your work to senior team members and leaders

Educational level
- Bachelor's/ Master's degree in Data Science, IT , Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent statistical fields
