As our Associate Director Data Science, you will lead a team of Experts for Data Science to maximize Patient Safety & Pharmacovigilance (PS&PV) analysis and automations of the core Pharmacovigilance, Patient Safety Reporting Analytics and related systems.

Job Description

Major accountabilities:

• Provide data science and quantitative analytical support for PS&PV by ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports to meet regulatory requirements, enable medical safety analysis and monitor safety profile of Novartis products. Build capabilities to leverage the Science of data to enhance safety surveillance and case management.


• Responsible for managing projects and innovation of Data science deliverables and ensure optimum utilization of resources in consultation with the Head Data Science and Analytics. Additionally, supervises Data scientists and managing performance and career development. Ensure all deliverables are met according to timelines, operational procedures and quality standards.


• Act as business lead for Pharmacovigilance Data Science POCs, Pilots, projects implementations or enhancements. Independently manage small to medium projects. Enhance data science services in support of safety risk evaluation and decision-making – consulting, advisory services, end-user proficiency and adoption with self-service analytical tools. Strengthen Data Science team to focus on critical business outcomes.


• Build strategic and structural connects with functions to make data science capabilities visible and to improve them. Follow the operational model and plan projects meticulously. Run every project, prototype and POC by having audit and inspection ready artefacts at all times.


• Engineer key data science analytical insights into simple, intuitive, and well-designed tools and services tailored for each role, Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety process in areas of analysis, demand planning, budget forecasting, resource allocation and vendor management support, patient focused protocol design and reported outcome, risk based monitoring, operational and performance planning.


• Provide best data science, AI/ML solutions for a variety of business applications including but not limited to: Predictive analysis in Patient safety, Customer Segmentation & Targeting, Event Prediction, Propensity Modelling, Churn Modelling, Customer Lifetime Value Estimation, Forecasting, Recommender Systems, Modelling Response, Optimization


• Is responsible in creation of new data sciences capabilities for the business by envisioning and executing strategies that will influence improvement of the business’s performance by enabling informed decision making.

Minimum Requirements:
Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree level in Life Science, Data Science or Information Technology

  • Fluent English (both written and spoken). Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

    • At least 10 years of experience in Pharma drug development, ideally in patient safety

    • Leadership experience in an international, cross-functional environment – including management of external providers. Nurture a culture of accountability, responsibility, leadership and high expertise.

    • Hands on experience in Data Science AI/ML solutioning and project implementations. Working with Business, IT, Data Engineers and Vendors. Experience supporting regulatory inspections, responding to inspectors, and managing related team actions.

    • Excellent understanding of patient safety, clinical development, quality and regulatory standards and policies relevant to Patient Safety functions, familiar with operational and scientific aspects of drug development.

    • Ability to translate business questions into data science problems and build solutions using data science techniques, machine learning, statistical modeling and ensure it is robust, scalable solution is developed.

    • At least 3 years of experience working within Data Science, AI/ML and IT projects, with a thorough understanding of the issues revolving around aligning technology with business needs
