GIS Data Scientist

Salary up to £30,000

Location: Norwich only

In this role, you’ll work closely with external data and software vendors as well as internal stakeholders and the rest of the team to maintain Aviva’s reputation as an industry leader in the use of GIS.

The GIS team consists of two Data Scientists and one Data Science Lead, reporting to Head of Data Science and Analytics within the Commercial Lines Data Science department.

A bit about the job:

Whilst reporting into the Commercial Lines GI business, your customers will include Underwriting and Pricing teams Personal Lines teams too, as well as Operations, Claims, Risk, and other Group analytics teams to fulfil their GIS requirements.

You’ll work with the Data Science Team to develop and deliver innovative geospatial rating factors, geospatial insight to help shape and drive the analytics agenda forward as well as mapping systems and applications to deliver insight to end-users.

A key function of the team is the implementation of our Flood Strategy and supporting the business in selecting the correct risks to underwrite.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • A degree in Geography, GIS or related subject; or demonstrable experience in a related role.
  • Advanced GIS analytics knowledge and software skills – including the ESRI, Geoserver, Postgres, Postgis technology stack.
  • Experience of relational databases, geodatabases, SQL. Any experience of creating API's with R/Python would be advantageous.
  • Flood modelling knowledge/experience and open-source desktop GIS experience is desirable.
  • R/Python coding knowledge and web mapping application development would also be advantageous.

  • Salary Up to £30,000 (location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
