Catalog Team is responsible for hosting billions of products in Coupang’s catalog and the dynamic processing of hundreds of millions of updates to provide the source of truth that powers the online buying experience for millions of customers. About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Director of Data Science & Analytics to lead and develop our growing team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts who collaborate with a diverse set of product-related function like product management, engineering, and product data operations, providing innovative solutions to our complex catalog systems. An ideal candidate will leverage his/her deep technical understanding, leadership skills, and industry knowledge to help us make informed decisions based on data insights.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to a team of data scientists and data analysts, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
  • Develop and implement advanced data analytics models to enhance our catalog system
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Business, to implement data-driven strategies for improving the catalog system's efficiency and accuracy
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data structures that enable strategic analysis and insight
  • Continually evolve the team's analytics capabilities, staying abreast of new technologies and methodologies in data science
  • Act as the main point of contact for data science-related inquiries concerning the catalog system, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives
  • Present complex data insights to a range of stakeholders in a clear, understandable, and actionable manner

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field. A Master's Degree or Ph.D. is preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in data science or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale data projects, particularly with catalog systems
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science, such as SQL, Python or R
  • Extensive experience with data science tools and frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
  • Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills
