Data Scientist II, Product Analytics

The Trip Experience Product Analytics team within Expedia Group supports end-to-end trip experience of our travelers. The team primarily focuses on products such as Trip Discovery, Collaboration, Packages and Multi-item bookings. Our team is tasked with partnering with Product leads and helping them understand behavior of our travelers, finding insights, making data driven recommendations for Product improvements and analyzing performance of product launches through A/B testing. Our team is looking for a Data Scientist II to join the Package Analytics team.

In this role, the candidate will contribute to many aspects of product development, including understanding user behavior for on-site search, test and learn, opportunity identification, and problem-solving. If you are a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics & data science to drive innovation and user engagement of a product, then this position is for you!

Who You Are: 

  • Min 2-4 yrs of prior work experience in Analytics domain and delivering insights that inform business decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work through complex business problems and implement suitable solutions 

  • Solid experience in Data Science, Predictive modeling, exploratory analytics 

  • Demonstrable intermediate level experience of using R/Python, SQL, Tableau (or similar) for data analysis, structuring, transforming and visualizing big data

  • Proficiency in statistical concepts related to A/B testing

  • Ability to build common models such as linear and non-linear regression, clustering etc. and a basic understanding data pre-processing for modelling

  • Possess basic level understanding of common data models, their underlying assumptions, the types of business questions they can best answer, and what data sources would best support the model (i.e. linear and logistic regression).

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills, and ability to coordinate work with an international team

  • Understanding of advanced statistical/predictive modeling, operation research and optimization techniques 

  • Ability to prioritize among conflicting demands in a fluid environment

  • Be proactive, inquisitive and self-sufficient in finding the right data sources and troubleshooting issues  

What You Will Do: 

  • Take initiative to identify current and potential problems and help determine solutions for Product roadmap.

  • Analyze A/B tests and be a proponent of best practices for A/B testing, and pre/post analysis techniques

  • Create reporting for tracking success of key metrics

  • Work with large and variety of datasets to help answer questions from Product Managers

  • Query a variety of big data datasets and create clear visualizations that support the data story and deepen the audience's understanding

  • Produce speedy, accurate and high quality results by being proactive and committed. Continually focus on achieving positive results contributing to the business' success 

  • Understand duties and responsibilities, build necessary job knowledge, have necessary technical skills, understand company mission/values, be in command of critical issues 

  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing, create accurate and punctual reports, deliver presentations, share information and ideas with others, listen carefully and consider what others have to say, including differing viewpoints 

  • Structure problems, extract and analyze data, and present the findings to corporate leadership and internal customers 

  • Assume end to end ownership of key analytical projects 

  • Proactively and directly engage with partners to assess existing and upcoming project needs and maintain regular communication on progress 

  • Build trust and work collaboratively and transparently with stakeholders from domains such as Product, Design, User Research and Engineering.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
