Data Scientist II

We are looking for a highly motivated data scientist to provide valuable analytics and decision support to join the Strategic Insights Data Science team supporting the Expedia Travel and Partner Services Platform (TPSP).  In this role you will work closely with the Business Operations and Product Management teams. You will be a key analytics contributor in developing the strategic directions of the customer services operations across the Expedia Group major brands (Brand Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Wotif, CheapTickets, Hotel.com, Vrbo, EPS) and collaborating with the business to meet key milestones. A successful candidate will be a quantitatively driven self-starter who is able to work well with all levels of the cross-functional teams and break down obstacles to ensure the success of the business.

Who You Are: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work through complex business problems and implement suitable solutions.
  • Solid experience in data visualization using Tableau or similar tools along with Analytics expertise.
  • Proficiency in SQL and another programming language (e.g. R, Python)
  • Knowledge of data science, statistical/predictive modeling, operation research and optimization techniques
  • Conduct hypotheses testing and design and analyze complex A/B tests
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize among conflicting demands in a fluid environment.

What You Will Do: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Science, Statistics, or in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
  • Strong SQL skills; demonstrated experience of using R / PySpark / Python to structure, transform and visualize big data, and a willingness to learn new frameworks and languages required for the task
  • Experience in statistical analysis, experimentation (A/B testing, quasi-experiment methods), supervised and unsupervised learning models
  • Take initiative to identify current and potential problems and determine the best solution. Involve and/or manage the people and resources required 
  • Produce outstanding results by being proactive and committed. Continually focuses on achieving positive results contributing to the company's business success 
  • Understand duties and responsibilities, have necessary job knowledge, have necessary technical skills, understand company mission/values, be in command of critical issues 
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing, create accurate and punctual reports, deliver presentations, share information and ideas with others, listen carefully and consider what others have to say, including differing viewpoints 
  • Structure problems, extract and analyze data, and present the findings to corporate leadership and internal customers 
  • Assume end-to-end ownership of key analytical projects 
  • Proactively and directly engages with partners to assess existing and upcoming project needs and maintains regular communication on progress
