JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Genome Sciences Institutional Core Research Facility, in Hershey, PA is seeking for a Data Scientist with experience in bioinformatic analysis of large-scale next generation sequencing data such as transcriptome, and whole genome sequencing.
The Data Scientist will be responsible for raw data generation and management from the NGS and microarray instruments and delivering bioinformatics analyses and figures to the core’s customers, which include but are not limited to Penn State faculty and students. This work will include utilizing commonly used algorithms for analysis, as well as searching the literature for specialized algorithms and writing customized scripts as necessary.
This position will be filled at an Intermediate Professional or Advanced Professional depending on the candidate's education and experience.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree and 1+ years of relevant experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional education and/or experience required for higher level position.
Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or related field preferred. Experience with next generation sequencing data analysis is required. Proficiency in Python or R and working in a Linux environment is required. Candidate should be highly motivated and able to work independently and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$61,800.00 - $115,100.00Salary Structure - additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure.
