The Opportunity

We are excited to welcome a passionate Senior Data Scientist to join our Global Advanced Customer Analytics team at Manulife/John Hancock. In this role, you will spearhead the development and global scaling of innovative chatbot technology using retrieval augmented generative (RAG) models as part of our Customer Experience (CX) initiative. Your work will be instrumental in using customer data to enhance our products and services and deliver exceptional customer experiences on a global scale. 


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Data engineers and IT Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to comprehend source data.U
  • Use large datasets to prepare and optimize data for the development of RAG-based chatbot models.
  • Develop and implement advanced machine learning models to address sophisticated business challenges, using a variety of algorithms and techniques, with a focus on RAG technology.
  • Collaborate closely with partners to gather requirements, design data models, and implement tailored solutions that align with RAG chatbot development.
  • Standardize processes, techniques, and tools into standard methodologies for other data scientists, specifically focusing on RAG-based chatbot development.
  • Drive the adoption of insights from RAG chatbot analytics work by influencing and partnering with key collaborators.
  • Innovate and explore creative methods to source and apply structured and unstructured data for RAG chatbot modeling efforts.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in AI/ML, with a specific focus on RAG technology, to continuously enhance our global chatbot capabilities.

We are looking for a candidate who has

  • An advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or another quantitative field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in building and scaling chatbots using retrieval augmented generative (RAG) technology and solving high-impact business problems using data science.
  • Proficiency in data wrangling, preprocessing, and visualization, with expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, and a strong understanding of agile solution development principles.
  • Practical experience with big data processing frameworks and platforms such as Azure, Databricks, and Spark, with a focus on chatbot implementation and scaling using RAG technology.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex data science concepts for both technical and non-technical partners, particularly within the context of RAG chatbot development.
  • Proven track record of implementing RAG chatbot models into production with tangible business value.
  • Previous experience in customer analytics is an asset, especially within the realm of RAG chatbot technology.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
