The NISC IV Training Group (NTG) within the Leidos Digital Modernization group is looking for an experienced Data Scientist. Support is needed to assist with expediting data integration through data cleaning, data pipelining, and data enrichment. Support ensures the enhancement of FAA integrated data sets such as Continued Safety Operations (COS), Oversight, Certification and Validation Issues.
Primary Duties
- Provide data pipelining for the Management team.
- Provide support in mining FAA datasets in conjunction with information analysis tools but not limited to SPSS/R/Python/PySpark/Palantir Foundry to use appropriate algorithms/machine learning/artificial intelligence to study the data.
- Provide support for the Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM), safety risk analysis and assessment.
- Perform specialized data collection using query languages to create datasets and analyze data using artificial intelligence.
- Collaborate with engineers and key stakeholders to comprehend FAA needs and devise possible solutions to enhance COS, certification, oversight, and validation-related objectives.
- Provide support in the collaboration efforts with international partners for the implementation of interoperable open standards and procedures, innovative technologies, cultural shifts related to standards, the AIR organization of international and geographical standards and taxonomies of certifications, regulations, communication, and sharing of information technologies while protecting privacy.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of a new make/model/series cross reference table that enables and supports the new FAA policy to adapt to the Commercial Aviation Safety Team/ICAO Common Taxonomy Team (CICTT) International make/model/series taxonomy.
- Provide support to integrate existing tables into new taxonomies and data structures, allowing many disparate systems to share the same data while supporting existing and new systems.
- Provide support to query multiple data systems to produce requested data and data analysis for internal FAA clients as well as external clients while adhering to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regulations as well as FAA policies, processes, and privacy guidelines.
- Compile, organize, and analyze data/information to find solutions to problems requiring the use of a broad range of established research methods and techniques.
- Facilitate, utilize, analyze structured and unstructured data from, but not limited to big data, social media, crowd sourcing, gamification, mobile devices, NoSQL data systems, cloud, and the related query and analysis tools.
- Support data management, protection of the security of information assets during analysis and data projects. Prepare, develop, and disseminate reports, graphs, briefs, and/or media to depict outcomes of data collected and analyzed.
- Perform information analysis across multiple data sources to identify patterns, relationship, and other analytical and statistical models to support data and research needs.
- Provide evaluation of factual & non-factual data using various information technology tools.
- Proactively identify risks and hazards with the growth and security of information assets, risk assessments and the protection of privacy information.
- Document supporting query criteria, business rules, requirements, processes, procedures, change control management, and associated impact assessments related to data analysis projects.
- Provide expertise and support for business process analysis and documentation on special projects, recently developed systems and applications, and projects currently in development.
- Provide support to assess program and software utilization, identifying redundancies and gaps.
- Provide support to identify software issues and provide solutions to management as needed for software applications and systems.
- Provide assistance with software gathering requirements by leading user groups and documenting user stories for new and on-going software projects.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering and four to eight years of prior relevant work or Masters with two to six years of prior relevant background.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Suitability.
- Requires strong SQL development skills – writing complex queries and stored procedures – SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL.
- Strong comprehension of Software development lifecycle.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyze structured and unstructured data from data sources, mobile devices, NoSQL data systems, cloud, and the related query and analysis tools.
- Background analyzing complex data sets and creating dashboards and visualization to find trends and patterns in data.
- Background with statistical analysis and information analysis tools such as SPSS/R/Python.
- Solid comprehension of Agile Project Management methodologies.
Clearance
To be eligible for a Public Trust, one should be either a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
