Position Summary

Continuing with the tradition of innovation, MetLife, as part of its Digital Office function, is establishing a dedicated center for advanced analytics & research in India. The setup of Global Analytics and Research Center (GARC) is a key multi-year strategic initiative focused on scaling data science capabilities, enabling more cost-effective analytics operating model and increasing data science maturity across the MetLife global community.

GARC will deliver data driven decisions across all critical business functions such as customer engagement, distribution, underwriting, claims operations, risk management, products and tackle hard, open-ended problems. 

Data Scientist is at the heart of Analytics operations. The Data Scientist is expected to understand requirements of analytics use case, independently perform analysis, develop models, quality check, interpret results and present back to the stakeholders. Besides sound conceptual understanding and good programming skills, having a keen sense of business and interpreting the model outputs effectively is a key success criterion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with Senior Data Scientists and Managers to understand the business problem and translate it into an analytical problem
  • Perform Exploratory Data Analysis and decide what ML models fit the requirement
  • Develop appropriate algorithms, test the quality and iterate till desired results are obtained
  • Extract analytical insights and translate them to business insights; validate the insights with Manager and continuously improve upon interpretation skills
  • Work with the Sr. Data Scientist and Manager to present the insights and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Ensure coding as well as overall development best practices are implemented
  • Create intuitive and detailed documentation as appropriate
  • Contribute to collaboration and awareness in the global analytics community

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of working experience in the field of data and analytics
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages like Python, R, and SPSS is required; PySpark is a plus
  • Expertise in building statistical models including (but not restricted to) Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Random Forest and time series modelling
  • Strong conceptual knowledge of Big Data technologies like Hadoop (Spark, Hive, Pig)
  • Good written and oral communication, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Prior experience in BFSI domain is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field required; Masters preferred
