The Position

As Novo Nordisk embarks on an exciting transformation and journey as a company, we are developing a new capability in Global Development's Data Science organization to bring novel, data-driven approaches for Due Diligence & Integrations (DS DDI). The Data Science digital assets evaluation lead will serve as the critical leader by shaping our approach for acquiring external innovation in digital/data opportunities. The candidate will lead the evaluation of digital/data assets with a focus on our prioritized areas of interest, and further collaborate with internal stakeholders to lead due diligence activities.

This is a unique opportunity to build a novel capability to support data science due diligence of Novo Nordisk's external innovation and acquisitions, all from the ground-up. This is a complex role that will demand proactively developing and gaining buy-in for new approaches with your stakeholders. The candidate should also be adept with project management, assembling strategic communications for senior leadership, and managing relationships across internal stakeholders.

We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to spearhead the formation of a groundbreaking team focused on evaluating digital assets for Novo Nordisk. This role represents a unique opportunity to lead a pioneering effort in a rapidly evolving industry, driving the identification and acquisition of innovative digital solutions to advance our mission.

Relationships

This position reports to Senior Director, Data Science Evaluation & Integration Strategy in Novo Nordisk’s Data Science External Affairs organization. The Digital assets evaluation lead will work closely with different functional teams within data science and outside data science including BD, DDS, DEI.

This position will work closely with the Scouting and External ventures lead to perform detailed due diligence of identified opportunities. The position will have multiple touchpoints with multiple stakeholders and teams located globally, primarily working with stakeholders in the US and Denmark.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for evaluating, and acquiring digital assets to align with our company’s strategic objectives and growth initiatives
  • Build a robust framework to evaluate opportunities based on scientific merit, commercial potential and Novo Nordisk’s priorities
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities in the digital space, ensuring a deep understanding of emerging technologies, market trends, and competitive landscapes
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to articulate the value proposition and business case behind potential investments and acquisitions, influencing key stakeholders to support strategic initiatives
  • Create and maintain a robust pipeline of potential targets, leveraging market insights and industry knowledge to inform decision-making and drive successful acquisition outcomes
  • Champion a culture of innovation and agility, fostering an environment that embraces experimentation, risk-taking, and continuous improvement

Physical Requirements

up to 10% overnight travel required.

Development of People

Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD degree) in a relevant area of life sciences, healthtech or data analytics. 
  • 7+ years’ relevant experience, including:
    • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of data science digital assets and opportunities from a market, industry, product, and technology perspective
    • Track record of success in business development, corporate strategy, venture capital, or related areas
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, evaluating, and executing on digital asset acquisitions, ideally within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry or a closely related field
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, drive strategic initiatives, and navigate complex organizational structures
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building capabilities, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and influence decision-makers at all levels, and to effectively present to diverse audiences.
  • Deep understanding of digital innovation, emerging technologies, and market dynamics, with a forward-looking perspective on industry trends and disruptions

The base compensation range for this position is $185000 to $215000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. The job posting is anticipated to close on April 27th. Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation depending on the position's level or other company factors.
