Data Science Coordinator call

Do you want to be part of the globally unique iCAN Digital Precision Cancer Medicine project?

The iCAN Digital Precision Cancer Medicine flagship is a public-private partnership hosted by the University of Helsinki and HUS Helsinki University Hospital within the Research Council of Finland flagship program

We are currently seeking a Data Science Coordinator for the iCAN flagship. The Data Science Coordinator works with the >400-member group of researchers and clinicians and as an integral member of the iCAN Data Team to lead and coordinate data science activities within the flagship.

The tasks include planning, coordinating, tracking progress, and participating in scientific activities broadly involving large-scale sequencing, registry and imaging data analysis, and driving forward the development of the iCAN Discovery Platform. A key component of the iCAN Project, the Discovery Platform is a HUS Acamedic / Microsoft Azure based computing environment which enables analyses on petabyte-scale precision cancer medicine data. The Platform is developed by the iCAN Data Team with clinical translation in mind, and thus you will have the unique opportunity to impact how cancers will be diagnosed and treated in the future.

The optimal candidate has a suitable scientific background in data science or translational cancer research, and demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, and coordinating complex data-driven projects. Good communication and collaboration skills and a detail-oriented and analytical approach to problem-solving are appreciated. Essential qualifications include a PhD, or extensive prior experience in relevant research areas such as bioinformatics. Strong written and oral English skills are required. Finnish language skills are not mandatory but considered beneficial.

iCAN has a dynamic, vibrant, and highly motivated international team with a friendly and supportive working culture. Your well-being at work is our priority, and we will help you thrive by providing, for example, flexible working hours, inexpensive and diverse sports services, and occupational health care.

The appointment will be on a fixed-term basis until the end of 2026. The starting date is negotiable, but we hope the appointee will be able to take up the position latest in March 2024. The position is full-time or part-time (minimum 50%). The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the University salary system. Please submit your application to the university's recruitment system via the "Apply Now" button below by February 28 2024, including a curriculum vitae and a motivation letter in your application.
