Position Specific Description

Internal Audit is looking for an Associate Data Scientist to grow its data analytics program. This is an exciting opportunity for recent college graduates with a strong foundation in data analytics and a passion for driving innovation in the energy sector. The Associate Data Scientist will be responsible for developing and implementing data-driven solutions to help our Internal Audit team identify and mitigate risks, develop preventative and detective monitoring controls, improve operational efficiency, and optimize financial performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in statistical analysis, data modeling, and data visualization, as well as a strong understanding of database systems and programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
 
•    Collaborate with team members to understand business objectives and identify opportunities to leverage data and analytics to drive value
•    Design and implement data models, algorithms, and analytics best suited to a particular scenario
•    Work independently with a blank slate to identify innovative data-driven solutions to problems
•    Develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure data quality and integrity
•    Create interactive dashboards and reports to communicate insights and recommendations to business units
•    Learn current industry trends and best practices in data analytics and apply them to our internal audit function
 
Additional Qualifications:
•    Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL
•    Experience in statistical analysis, data modeling, and data visualization
•    Familiarity with database systems and data architecture
•    Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to effectively analyze data and draw meaningful insights
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment
•    Self-motivated and creative mindset with a passion for innovation
•    Experience in working with large datasets, data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) is preferred
•    Familiarity with auditing and internal controls is an added advantage

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (i.e., “Big Data”).

  • Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions
  • Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
  • Works with big data and distributed computing platforms
  • Develops software and contributes to product development
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
