Our team “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Enablement” provides exceptional Data Science services to stakeholders across BASF. We play a vital role in driving the AI transformation at BASF and serve as the backbone of the Analytics & AI Community. With a focus on enablement, scalability, reproducibility, and transparency, our data scientists support data-driven use cases of strategic importance to BASF. Our goal is to empower stakeholders by providing cutting-edge solutions that enable informed decision-making and drive business growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a data scientist in this role, you will be responsible for the entire data science model lifecycle, including data analysis, model development and training, and cloud deployment. Working closely with our business partners, you will provide insights from data that support better and faster business decisions. You will support data projects from ideation to commissioning and provide ongoing service and support during runtime.


Your main tasks in this role would be:
• You will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand and support their data-driven use cases.
• You will deliver AI solutions that enable informed decision-making and drive business growth for our internal clients.
• You will actively identify needs of our business partners and translate them into software specifications, working closely with other data scientists and roles like data & software engineers and architects to manage the development.
• You will be responsible for the successful execution of data science projects in the context of AI Enablement, including defining and evaluating use cases, developing algorithms, and effectively communicating results.
• You will plan the implementation of solutions, choosing the right technologies and evaluating the evolution of the architecture as the clients’ needs change.
• You will ensure that your solutions are scalable, reproducible, and transparent, adhering to best practices and industry standards.
• You will act as a catalyst for enablement, provide guidance and support to stakeholders in utilizing AI and Data Science to their fullest potential.
• You will stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, Data Science, and related technologies, and proactively apply them to enhance the effectiveness of your solutions.
• You will contribute to the development and enhancement of the Analytics & AI Community at BASF, sharing knowledge and insights with colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Master degree in the field of computer or data science, mathematics, statistics or related discipline with at least 3 years of (non-academic) work experience in a similar role.
• A Bachelor degree in the field of computer or data science, mathematics, statistics or related discipline with at least 5 years of (non-academic) work experience in a similar role.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, with practical hands-on experience.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies, specifically Microsoft Azure or similar platforms.
• Strong skills in transforming, optimizing, analyzing, and modeling real-world datasets using relevant libraries, e.g. in Python (Pandas, Numpy etc.) or similar.
• Proven track record of implementing machine learning & AI solutions and doing statistical analysis with wide-spread frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Scikit-learn …)
• Understanding of AI solution components including MLOps, serving infrastructure, performance monitoring, and cost control in a cloud environment.
• Excellent business and technical consulting skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
• Proficiency in data visualization and the ability to explain quantitative topics to non-technical colleagues, e.g. through storytelling.

NICE TO HAVE

• Hands-on experience developing customized generative AI solutions for business use cases, including expertise in concepts like finetuning and RAG and popular frameworks.

• Hands-on experience in software development, preferably for cloud-based applications, in an agile setup, such as Kanban or Scrum.

• Understanding of natural sciences and/or the chemical industry.

• Conversational skills in German.
