SAP HANA is a global leader in high-performance mission-critical enterprise database systems and keeps growing as a core platform for enterprise data management and analytics. HANA Database Kernel Team is one of the core and privileged teams for SAP HANA development, covering a wide spectrum of technology components. It includes the core data integration features such as federation and replication, database migration service and cloud data export/import, workload management, client/server session management, metadata management, connectivity, elastic compute scaling, and even more. The team has contributed to the success of SAP HANA significantly with new innovations (holding more than 100 registered or filed patents) and feature delivery in quality.

One of the key requirements for modern cloud database system is elasticity. With public cloud infrastructures, HANA Cloud can provide compute node on demand. Compute intensive workloads can be routed to additional compute node and Workload Management controls this routing. Workload management should consider characteristics of incoming workload, current resource usage, system configuration to attain the optimial performance. Due to the complexicity, it’s necessary to leverage AI to analyze workload characteristics and propose workload routing plan. It’ll greatly improve the usability of the HANA Cloud user and make HANA Cloud more elastic.

Expectation and Tasks:

As a developer of the team, you will be working with a group of exceptionally talented and motivated colleagues:

  • Develop SAP HANA Cloud Database with expertise in designing for scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Be responsible for timely and high-quality product delivery
  • Co-work with colleagues in North America and in Europe

Possible contribution areas: 

  • Database system elasticity and workload management
  • AI assisted workload analysis and routing
  • Become an expert in SAP HANA Cloud as part of the SAP HANA Core team

Educations and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies​

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related fields
  • Expertise in C/C++
  • Experience in SQL, Python, Git
  • Responsibility, integrity, teamwork
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with new ideas and logical reasoning

Preferred Qualifications (Plus factors):

  • Fluency in modern C++ (C++ 11/14/17)
  • Knowledge in database system
  • Experience in GenAI/AI related development 
  • Verbal and written working proficiency in English (intermediate)
