We are looking for penultimate year students who can answer “yes” to the above for our 2024 Legal & General Summer Internship based in Cardiff. Please note that this role is based in Cardiff and requires some in person working at our new Cardiff office, as part of our hybrid working model. If you do not currently live within a commuteable distance to Cardiff you would be exected to relocate and unfortunately we are unable to offer support to do this.

Job Description

The key thing to know is that your role will be broad and diverse, with lots of opportunity to develop. You will join the Retail People Development Team and will work on a variety of projects interacting with many different teams across the HR and Retail division.

The placement programme is designed to give you the fundamental experience and skill set required to excel in a career in Data Science.

Over the course of the 8 weeks, you will be given the chance to experience different projects, develop your professional network and expand on both your people and analytical skills. We hope that by the end of the program you will have built a clearer picture of where your interests and experience can take you within Legal & General and the wider industry.

Job duties include:

  • Collecting and analysing learning data to provide insight using both traditional and machine learning methods.
  • Support the team in producing MI
  • Summarising performance of learning programmes to present to senior management to aid in decision making.
  • Develop new reporting tools & improve current team processes by utilising data analytics.   
  • Maintain appropriate documentation supporting the procedures, analyses, decisions, processes, and controls.

Qualifications

First and foremost, we are looking for people with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:

  • Penultimate year student, on track for minimum of a 2.1 in a related subject – such as, but not limited to, Data Science, or Computer Science
  • Experience with coding languages is highly advantageous (particularly R, SQL and Python)
  • Analytical mind-set, with a high level of numeracy
  • Great communication skills
  • Flexible and a team-player
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning is beneficial but not essential

The People Development Team forms part of the Retail HR Function. We use data to help us to understand the needs and impact of learning. analyse our staff surveys, retention MI, course attendance, costs associated with learning and learning evaluation We work across all aspects of the Retail division, including a variety of business areas (Insurance, Retirements,  Home Finance, Fintech and more and group functions (HR).
