Overview:
We are hiring a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst with expertise in MS Power BI development and a proven foundation in Data Science, including fundamental-level skills in Generative AI and Machine Learning! This role focuses on designing, developing, and moving BI, Analytics, and AI/ML tools that enhance and evolve business operations and scientific decision-making capability and related activities at ORNL into production. This position resides in the Enterprise Applications group of the Applications Development division in the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary duties for this position will include:
- Provide support for ORNL’s Business Intelligence and data warehouse activities which potentially cover all areas of corporate data (business, human capital management, facilities, operations, and research). ORNL’s BI cubes, models and analytics are heavily centered on Microsoft and SAP technologies.
- Development and support of corporate reports and dashboards employing PowerBI and other Microsoft reporting tools.
- Collaboration with key business and scientific/technical participants to understand needs and gather detailed actionable requirements.
- Analysis of emerging trends and technologies to provide recommendations for roadmaps and BI strategy including Generative AI and ML techniques and solution methods.
- Development and implementation of master data management strategy to include implementation of measures to ensure data accuracy, cleanliness, transformation, and accessibility.
- Collaboration with other DOE labs and private sector companies to understand capabilities.
- Conformity to both ORNL and ITSD project management requirements and software quality assurance standards and ITIL effective practices.
Additional duties for this position may include:
- Development and support of data warehouse technologies beyond the worlds of Microsoft and SAP. AI and ML applied experience and a general understanding of their potential use cases.
- Provide personal training for end users as needed, on Business Intelligence tools and effective practices.

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS in computer science, data science, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics, or a related field of study and five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience is required. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
- Masters and PhD degree holders in the same fields of study are also encouraged to apply. Masters’ holders should have four (4) to six (6) years of relevant experience and PhD holders should have zero (0) to three (3) years of relevant experience. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
- Microsoft Business Intelligence development experience including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
- Demonstrable experience creating BI solutions using MS Power BI, SQL, and MS Azure tool sets.
- Demonstrable experience with Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI tools and API’s for GPT creation, Large Language Model’s, Generative AI or similar tools.
- Must be a results-motivated, curious, self-starter who is comfortable working as part of a BI team, or as an independent BI consultant for project-based work on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI and data visualization to represent complex data concepts that foster business transparency and support effective decision making.
- Understanding of ETL (extract, transform, load) framework.
- Understanding of multidimensional and tabular modeling.
- Experience using SQL Server Database engine (SSMS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
- Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, Python.
- Experience with current Data Science or Data Analytic tools including low code-no code.
- Knowledge of current ORNL business processes and applications (or similar).
- Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint technologies.
