Meet the team:

The Maps Engineering is responsible for delivering the tools, data pipelines, services, and infrastructure used to create high definition maps that are critical to the safe operation of Ford’s L3 system. We are just getting started so this is a great opportunity to have an impact on the future direction of the strategy of 0->1 product. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who will be deep in code to help build the HD maps from the ground up.

What you’ll do: 

  • Design and implement algorithms to build HD maps from the ground up 
  • Evaluate those algorithms and iterate by designing and implementing relevant metrics
  • Design and implement algorithms to compare different generations of map products across time
  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to improve the maps. It requires not only developing algorithms to build good maps, but also understanding how the maps are consumed by different modules, so that sensible decisions can be made

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience (or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or PhD)
  • Solid understanding of probability, geometry, linear algebra and graph theory
  • Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms relevant to mapping, location based services, SLAM
  • Solid programming skills and software engineering practice
  • Knowledge of modern C++ and/or Python is a plus
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, task-prioritization and teamwork skills
  • Experience in working with large and scalable systems is a plus

The expected base salary range for this full-time position in California is $207,760-$285,670 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Latitude employees are also eligible to participate in Latitude’s annual bonus programs, equity compensation, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
