Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our team and lead the development of robust data pipelines in AWS for our data lakes and data warehouses. This role is crucial in transforming our data infrastructure and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Our Data and Technology Group (DTG) is a diverse, project-oriented team delivering technology solutions to our Defense, Homeland, Law Enforcement, and Civilian agency clients. DTG is QinetiQs' homebase for developers, data scientists, network engineers, system administrators, and other technologists, creating a dynamic, cross-project technical community that prioritizes continual learning, collaboration, and easy opportunities for project variety over time.

DTG also ensures that our focus on delivering for current customers is balanced with initiatives that will help drive future growth - both in terms of new customers and new technologies and solutions. Ambitious technologists will have a wide range of opportunities to stretch their tech skills as we create novel demonstrations and pilot capabilities to help clients as they consider how to modernize and maximize their technology, processes, operations, and mission impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines for both batch and streaming data sources in an AWS environment
  • Utilize a variety of tools including AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, SQL, and Python scripts
  • Implement data cataloging to share metadata information for datasets in the data lake
  • Leverage AWS serverless components in the data pipeline architecture
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools to deploy pipelines within AWS
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, and efficiency of data processing systems

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on Data Integration experience. 7 years or more of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining efficient scripts/data pipelines to clean, transform, and ingest data from various formats into database tables, data warehouses, or data lake repositories
  • Experience building data pipelines using AWS serverless components
  • Expertise in using AWS Glue to build, maintain, and monitor ETL jobs
  • Strong Python skills for implementing ETL scripts
  • Familiarity with AWS Secrets Manager for credential management
  • Experience with AI/ML or NLP technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI/ML, image recognition, object detection, or NLP with leading cloud providers
  • Hands-on experience in building and training models with Databricks AutoML
  • AWS ML Certification or AWS Data Analytics Certification
  • Exposure to Amazon Textract or AWS Comprehend services
  • Proficiency in R programming with API integration
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Hive
