About the Position
The Bank of Canada, in partnership with the BIS Toronto Centre, is seeking a visionary leader to develop innovative AI strategies and solutions, enhancing our financial supervision capabilities. Join us in shaping the future of AI in financial supervision in this unique opportunity to work with two institutions in the frontier of digital financial systems. 

Within the BIS, the Innovation Hubs consist of 7 centres located in Canada, the Eurozone, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. Each centre is a multidisciplinary cell of colleagues aimed at identifying and building public goods for the digital financial systems of the world, with the aim of generating tools to help shape the digital financial ecosystems of the future.

What You Will Do

  • Lead AI projects in financial supervision, leveraging machine learning and deep learning techniques.
  • Develop and optimize AI models for pattern recognition and data analysis in financial markets.
  • Implement natural language processing solutions for financial data interpretation.
  • Lead the development of AI-based financial supervision frameworks and solutions.
  • Collaborate with international financial institutions to implement cutting-edge AI solutions in the area of supervision.
  • Develop AI systems to monitor and analyse financial operations and market actors.
  • Guide the team in adopting best practices in AI and data analytics.
  • Present AI strategies and findings to international stakeholders, including central banks.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

  • Proven experience in AI and machine learning, preferably in financial contexts.
  • Strong leadership and technical expertise in AI application development.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise between technical and business domains.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Java.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, data structures, and AI frameworks like TensorFlow, Pandas or PyTorch.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models to production, particularly large language models
  • Experience in maintaining operational systems with machine learning models.
  • Master the execution of training and inference workloads
  • Proficiency in statistics, mathematics, and data management.
  • Expertise in NLP and large language models.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.

Your Education and Experience
Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the proficiencies and skills for the role.  We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science or a related field, and 7+ years of relevant experience, including substantial experience in AI, with a focus on financial applications and experience leading end to end projects.

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Reliability

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $114,640 to $143,300 (job grade 19)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay. The first tier of performance pay is for successfully meeting expectation, at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (15% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.

  • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
