The Principal AI/ML Engineer will join a vibrant team of Data Scientist and ML Engineer team working within the Shell Energy Trading area of our Trading & Supply Capability Centre. The Principal AI/ML Engineer will be responsible for initiating, development, and deployment of data science solutions/products in an agile fashion to meet demand across multiple business lines. They will also be accountable for adhering to Shell quality standards for producing digital solutions.
What's the role
As a Principal AI Engineer, you will be responsible for initiating, development & delivery of data science solutions in an agile fashion to the business to provide insights & improvement to business processes or support the creation of innovative business models. The role is expected to manage large amounts of data; merge data sources; ensure consistency of datasets; create visualizations to aid in understanding data; build mathematical models using the data; and present and communicate the data insights/findings and produce and present results with dashboards.
Furthermore, your responsibilities include the following:
Lead a portfolio or programs in Shell Energy Trading & Supply
Lead small teams of Engineers allocated to the project
Working within the Shell Energy project team to deploy models to production, using existing and emerging methods and technologies that could be effectively applied to Shell use cases
Build core infrastructure around feature engineering, model training, model deployment, ongoing monitoring tools, and much more.
Build and automate our AI/ML workstream from data analysis, experimentation, operationalization, model training, model tuning to visualization.
Work closely with Infrastructure, data engineering and DevOp teams to increase deployment velocity, including the process for deploying models and data pipelines into production
Work closely with Product Management to translate product requirements into robust, customer-agnostic machine learning architectures
Keep abreast of new engineering practices, technologies and continuously improving our Agile practices and building and strengthening relationships and alliances in academia, IDT and industry
What we need from you
We're excited to connect with candidates who possess the following qualifications and are ready to take on the challenge:
Extensive experience in Machine Learning/AI Engineering preferably in Trading and Risk or Energy Industries
Experience in developing data platforms for energy market data, and deploying energy market analysis products
Extensive experience in System design of large Machine Learning Applications
Substantial development competency across a breadth of languages, frameworks, and tooling, such as Python, R, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, JavaScript/JVM, Scala, Reactive Streams, Kafka (Python preferred)
Substantial experience in cloud Application Development using AWS or Azure
Solid experience in designing application using Azure Machine Learning Services
Significant experience working with data scientists and/or ML engineers and building auto-scaling ML systems
Substantial experience in designing, developing, deploying, and monitoring machine learning and deep learning solutions
Substantial experience in Application development, deployment, and monitoring on Kubernetes
Development competency in data engineering and storage, including across breadth of tools such as S3, RDS, EFS, ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos, ADF, No-SQL, graph db, Spark, etc.
Proven experience in automating Infrastructure creation using Terraform, Helm
Significant of experience in distributed computing such as Spark, Pyspark
Good experience in applying ML algorithms, Optimization, and technologies to time series forecasting
Nice to have skills:
Gas/Power Trading knowledge - Short-term trading, physical assets trading (CCGT, Wind, Solar, Battery)
Risk - Modelling & understanding of risk & risk management.
Quantitative Skills - Statistical methods to check and investigate numerical data for practical insights
Designing ML application using Sagemaker/Google Vertex AI
Good experience in Bash\Powershell Scripting and Linux Operating system and networking fundamentals.
Strong desire to stay ahead of industry trends & technologies with a commitment to continuous learning
Knowledge and experience in applying ML algorithms and technologies to time series forecasting, Machine Vision, NLP
