Safe Intelligence - this forms the core brand of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS. Connected cognitive systems drive innovation in many sectors, including mobility, healthcare, and automation in industry. Disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing play a key role here. Fraunhofer IKS is conducting research to ensure that these applications are reliable and verifiably safe. We consider resilience and intelligence to be part of the same process.

What you will do

In AI application areas that may be subject to frequent change in the data and/or the task, e.g. visual quality inspection for small lot production, employing an AI model usually requires time and resource consuming updates, whenever the domain shift becomes too large. To reduce these model update efforts, you will investigate methods that facilitate domain generalization of machine learning algorithms in computer vision.

What you bring to the table

  • Good knowledge in machine learning and computer vision
  • Experience in programming with Python and PyTorch
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Good language skills in English
  • Good communication skills
  • Optional: experience/familiarity with domain generalization in computer vision.

What you can expect

  • Independent work and freedom to implement own ideas
  • Support from your supervisor
  • Participation in a dynamic team with innovative task areas
  • Practical relevance to your studies
  • Friendly working environment and flexible working hours
  • Possibility to work remote or on-site.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process.
