The Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR in Wachtberg near Bonn is one of the leading radar research institutes in Europe with one of the world’s most powerful space observation radar.
 

The Signal Processing and Algorithms research department is part of the “Industrial High-Frequency Systems” (IHS) business unit and focuses on modern signal processing and AI-methods for imaging, parameter estimation and object classification along with approaches for sensor data fusion, tracking and control in the field industrial radar applications including medical, air and ground mobility, and production processes.

What you will do

Your tasks will depend on your knowledge and interests, and the application fields in our department - but will ensure that you gain hands-on experience in research projects with well-known academic and industrial partners.

  • Contribution to the design and development of deep learning solutions
  • Help the team stay up to date with the latest developments in the field of deep learning for handling complex-valued RADAR measurements and fusing multi-sensor data
  • Support and further development of simulation environments and synthetic data.
  • Create Docker-based containers and chain them into pipelines for processing and evaluating sensor data
  • Maintenance of the project’s lifecycle in GitLab

What you bring to the table

  • Degree in computer science, communication engineering, mathematics or comparable disciplines
  • Hands-on experience in Python, especially PyTorch, C++ and MATLAB
  • Interest in topics such as radar technology, autonomous driving, sensor data fusion etc
  • Familiar with containerization using Docker and software versioning using Git
  • Initial experience in the field of deep learning is an advantage

Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.
The position is temporary and is initially limited to 6 months. An extension is explicitly desired.
The weekly working hours will be agreed upon individually.
