Responsible for data engineering in an Azure/Databricks data ecosystem that includes an enterprise data lake, data warehouse, and streaming analytics. This role will work in NFCU’s Enterprise Data and Information Management team focusing on designing and building data warehousing and gold-layer semantic solutions for enterprise-wide consumption. The candidate will design, data model, develop, test, maintain and evaluate system solutions. Must cultivate engagement with various stakeholders to align on expectations, evolve data solutions, and collaborate to deliver business impact. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions and works independently or mentors junior staff.

  • Design and develop data engineering solutions for batch and near real time datasets.
  • Apply engineering principles into the design and enhancement of new and existing solutions
  • Lead, guide and mentor less experienced staff
  • Document new system components, or modifications to existing components
  • Improve how we deliver solutions with process innovation, application of new technologies, and task automation
  • Ensure the security and integrity of system and product solutions including compliance with Navy Federal, industry engineering and Information Security principles and practices
  • Ensure the quality of deliverables by developing automated controls and performing unit, integration, and user acceptance testing
  • Perform engineering technology research, procurement, deployment, and configuration for new and modified systems
  • Present clear, organized and concise information to all audiences through a variety of media to enable effective business decisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Significant experience building Data Warehouses (Azure Synapse Analytics or similar), Data Lakes (Azure Data Lake or similar), ETL/ELT pipelines (Databricks or similar), and data streaming (Azure Event Hub, Kafka, Cosmos, MongoDB, or similar)
  • Expert knowledge of SQL
  • Experience in data engineering programming languages. (Python, Spark, or similar) 
  • Knowledge of data engineering requirements and design practices including fact qualifier matrices, dimensional modeling
  • Data modeling, including knowledge of modeling tools and experience building consumption layer models with Erwin or similar modeling tools
  • Experience modeling and designing no-SQL streaming solutions with Hackolade or similar tools
  • Experience in error handling, data validation and reconciliation
  • Experience working in retail banking or credit unions
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Agile software development practices
  • Bachelors in Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
