Position Overview

We are seeking a leader to join our People Insights & Solution Design (PI&SD) team as the Director of Data Science and Engineering. This new role will report directly to the Senior Director of People Insights & Solution Design, and will provide technical thought leadership and guidance to the team. The right candidate will play a critical role in shaping the future of our team and in attaining our aspirations of being a best in class People Analytics organization.

As the Director of People Insights – Data Science & Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in maximizing the potential of our people analytics team. This is not a build-from-scratch endeavour; rather, it is an opportunity to optimize existing processes and accelerate our progress. You will be responsible for providing technical best practices and guidance, leveraging your expertise to enhance the team's capabilities and drive strategic insights that inform our talent management decisions. This is a people manager role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to the People Insights & Solution Design team, leveraging your expertise with a strong emphasis on managing multidisciplinary teams in data engineering, front-end design, and data science domains.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to enhance data collection, analysis, and visualization processes.
  • Develop and implement advanced analytics techniques to uncover meaningful insights into our workforce trends and behaviours, leading our data scientists to develop predictive models and algorithms.
  • Oversee the design and development of user-friendly dashboards and data visualization tools, partnering with front-end designers to ensure a seamless user experience.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable data pipelines and storage solutions, leveraging cloud-based technologies such as AWS (e.g., DynamoDB, S3) to support our growing data needs.
  • Lead and coach team members in data engineering and backend development, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with HR leaders to translate data-driven insights into actionable strategies that optimize talent acquisition, retention, and development efforts.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in people analytics, continuously identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Partner with the Senior Director to prioritize initiatives and optimize workload for the team

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with 4+ years of leadership experience in a related role involving leveraging people data to draw deep insights and leading a team
  • Experience in engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven experience in people analytics, with a strong emphasis on engineering and data science.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL, as well as experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Deep understanding of statistical methodologies and machine learning techniques, with a focus on their application in HR contexts.
  • The ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity. You can work in an iterative and incremental way, balancing different inputs and constantly making trade-offs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
