The opportunity  

Opportunity to join EY’s EMEIA Public Policy team. The EY Public Policy function works to advance EY’s strategic objectives in a number of areas, including policy related to audit and assurance; sustainability; financial services; technology (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data rights, data localization, and other policy matters); and geopolitics. 

The Technical AI advisor will provide subject matter expertise and play a core role in the delivery of the EMEIA Public Policy team’s work on matters relating to the EU’s AI Act and related policy issues and on other priority AI policy topics across key EMEIA jurisdictions. In this capacity, you can have a significant impact on the entire AI landscape in terms of governance and its application

Your key responsibilities

As Technical Advisor, you will work closely with other members of the EMEIA Public Policy team, and with other EY colleagues, to advise on EY’s AI-related public policy priorities through:

  • Monitoring AI regulatory and policy developments
  • Supporting EY’s internal processes for the development, use and governance of AI through insights on AI policy developments
  • Support the development of Points of View and thought leadership on AI policy matters
  • Attending and reporting on events and assistance in publication of articles
  • Preparation for engagement with business associations, NGOs, think-tanks and academics that are shaping the AI policy debate
  • Supporting client engagement with insights on AI policy
  • Analysis of AI regulatory developments across EMEIA

The role will provide you with opportunities to further develop subject matter expertise on matters of vital importance to EY and our clients, as well as to work collaboratively with EY people from multiple service lines and geographies.  

You will report to  EMEIA’s Digital Policy Leader who together with EY’s Global AI Ethics and Regulatory leader will oversee your portfolio of work.

Skills and attributes for success

  • An understanding of the core technical concepts and developments of AI technology and use cases, with an ability to explain these to an intelligent, but non-expert audience
  • An understanding of, and interest in public policy, particularly with respect to AI and technology
  • Good understanding of the AI and digital technology policy landscape in the EU, including connections to (cyber) security and data rights and data management.
  • Very strong English language writing skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to identify and analyze public policy developments. Agility and ability to work in a fast-paced, business environment, overseeing multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Strategic thinking skills and ability to address complex challenges

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Artificial Intelligence or related digital field
  • Understanding of regulatory developments related to AI and related digital technologies
  • The ability to work as a member of a diverse high performing team, including by collaborating, being transparent, taking initiative, and working hybrid/virtually if and as appropriate 
  • Ability to synthesize complex information from various sources
  • Willingness to understand  EY’s business and the potential impact of AI regulation on EY’s business
  • Strong analytical and rigorous mindset
  • English language communication skills (written and oral). Strong working knowledge in another European languages would be a significant advantage.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected or last-minute requests, while executing more regular tasks and projects
  • Demonstrable integrity at all times, and exercise professional good judgement and discretion with sensitive and confidential information.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience working AI related projects

Education:

Master’s /advanced degree or equivalent university degree in AI or other relevant digital/science area.

PhD in above in related field would be preferred,
