The Group for Applied Machine Learning at the Department for Artificial Intelligence at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin is looking for a student assistant to strengthen its scientific activities and to develop innovative solutions, especially in the context of interdisciplinary collaborations. What you will do

  • Applied science in exciting projects

  • Design, execute and document machine learning experiments

  • Testing the latest deep learning architectures and methods

  • Analysis and visualization of large amounts of different data (e.g. from medicine or climate research)

  • Review of relevant literature and data

  • Preparation of texts and presentations

What you bring to the table

  • You are currently studying computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, statistics or a related field of study with good to very good grades

  • Programming skills in Python

  • Good to very good theoretical and practical (e.g. PyTorch) knowledge of deep learning

  • Independent, structured and precise way of working (e.g. when implementing, testing and documenting algorithms)

  • Interest in topics such as e.g. AI in biomedicine, AI application to climate data (nowcasting, super-resolution), and/or generative AI (e.g. with diffusion models)

  • Since we are interested in long-term cooperation, you should be enrolled for at least one more year. Ideally, you are at the beginning of your master's degree.

  • You live in Berlin or Brandenburg

The position is initially limited to 6 months. An extension is explicitly desired.

The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
