The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD is the world’s leading research institution for applied visual computing. We believe in enabling people to be in control of complex computer systems and the associated data overload of the digital age, rather than being controlled by them.

We are looking for you to join our Competence Center »Smart Living & Biometric Technologies«. We focus on biometrics, with special emphasis on computer vision and machine learning. As one of our research associates, you will also be part of the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE.

ATHENE is a research center of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In close cooperation with the TU Darmstadt, the Goethe University Frankfurt, and the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the two Fraunhofer Institutes (Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT and Fraunhofer IGD) work in a unique and innovative cooperation model between university and non-university research. With ATHENE, we pursue cutting-edge research for the benefit of economy, society, and the state, with a high impact on science.

What you will do

•    As part of our diverse and fast-growing team, you will focus on researching and developing solutions for biometric applications.
•    These solutions will utilize innovative machine learning and computer vision algorithms to address the most pressing vulnerabilities that currently prevent the wider and safer use of biometric technologies.
•    One of your main objectives will be the completion of a PhD thesis in cooperation with TU Darmstadt.

What you bring to the table

•    A scientific degree (Master/Diploma) in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, or similar
•    Advanced skills in programming and scripting languages (C++, Java, and preferably also Python)
•    Extensive knowledge in computer vision and machine learning
•    Passion for participating in an innovative and active research community
•    Problem solving and critical thinking skills
•    Fluency in written and spoken English and proficiency in German

What you can expect

•    We offer a modern and innovation-friendly working environment that is characterized by a mixture of research and the application of research results to industry-relevant challenges.
•    In our team, people from different disciplines work closely together with enthusiasm and commitment.
•    We offer excellent training and qualification opportunities.
•    In cooperation with the Technical University of Darmstadt, we offer the prospect of a PhD thesis in computer science.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is initially limited to 3 years.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.

Interested? Apply online now. We look forward to getting to know you!
