POSITION TITLE:               RADIOGRAPHER – MEDICAL IMAGING

REPORTS TO:                    TECHNICAL DIRECTOR – MEDICAL IMAGING

POSITION SUMMARY:

To perform Radiographic examinations within the units/clinics and the Medical Imaging Department of the American Hospital .To be part of all procedures and processes that allow the Medical Imaging Department in providing a high standard of service and patient care by assessing, monitoring, participating and assisting in the daily administration duties, infection control /risk management, quality improvement and departmental / hospital wide in-services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Quality and Accuracy
  • Independently Performs all General and Specialized Radiographic procedures. Mammography, Interventional /Fluoroscopy Radiography and Portable Radiography, C-arm examinations in accordance with hospital and departmental guidelines.
  • Performs procedures; which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques and calibrating equipment to obtain high quality images.
  • Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
  • Cleans , stocks , check operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety on a daily basis in rostered areas. Clean and tidy rooms at the end of all shifts
  • Works closely with the radiologists to cater for all procedural needs and requirements
  • Schedules patients for Imaging examinations if required. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with Radiologist instructions.
  • Observes radiation safety measures / protocols at all times e.g. Checking the LMP in all  females of child bearing age , protecting gonad areas when required
  • Observing all safety measures in the specialized areas e.g. MRI safety screening form , IV contrast assessment checking PTT times etc. available for interventional procedures
  • Perform any additional duties as required , administration duties assists with filing , clerical and scheduling wherever possible
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Quantity /Organizational Skills
  • Assist the Technical Director of Medical Imaging with the co-ordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implementing/ evaluating creative approaches to meeting goals
  • Performs additional duties as specified by immediate Supervisor.
  • Perform and monitors safety checks on patients , employees and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the CT suite.
  • Assist with follow-up of Incident/Accidents and Patient Complaints as directed by Technical Director / Chief Radiologist
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic – by disinfecting machine and accessories regularly – keeping food and drinks away from work areas – personal items out of sight

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have:
  • Graduate of an accredited School, University, or Institution from where the qualification permits registration with the ARRT or its equivalent.

  • Current Registered Licensure in country of citizenship or professional practice.
  • Recommended:
  • Knowledge of JCIA or accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of QI/CQI/PI philosophy.
  • Professional Experience/ Knowledge:

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three  (3)  years of recent  CT experience, with current clinical experience of  two(2) years in X ray.
  • Radiographer must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
  • They must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and X ray technique. 
  • Technologists must possess, use and maintain knowledge about radiation protection and safety.
  • Evidence of continuing education.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Performs all General and Specialized Radiographic procedures such as Mammography, Interventional/Fluoroscopy Radiography and Portable Radiography, C-arm, O-Arm, and Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) examinations per the American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines.
  • Performs procedures, which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques, and calibrating equipment to obtain high-quality images.
  • Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
  • Cleans, stocks, and checks the operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety daily in rostered areas. Clean and tidy rooms at the end of all shifts.

  • Performs any additional duties as required, administration duties assist with filing, clerical and scheduling wherever possible.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
  • Assists the Technical Director of Medical Imaging with the coordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implements/evaluates creative approaches to meeting goals.
  • Performs additional duties as specified by immediate Team Leader.
  • Performs and monitors safety checks on patients, employees, and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the x-ray suite.
  • Assists with follow-up of Incidents/Accidents and Patient Complaints as directed by Chief Of Medical Imaging or Technical Director.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic by disinfecting machines and accessories regularly and keeping food and drinks away from work areas – personal items out of sight.
  • Performs data analysis and audit in the Medical Imaging Department.
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiography/Radiology Technology or Medical Imaging
  • Active home country registration
  • Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent radiographic experience
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards
  • Knowledge of Middle East Culture and Customs
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and x-ray techniques
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently
