Responsibilities

Noblis is seeking a post-doctoral candidate with a strong background in artificial intelligence (AI) in Reston, VA

The successful will work with Noblis subject matter experts and scientists to lead and conduct research in various areas to include:

  • Evaluate, design and / or develop complex algorithms for a variety of technology and mission domains.
  • Advance responsible AI strategies, develop techniques to assess model robustness, test and counter bias and determine system risk.
  • Propose, design and build AI systems for computer vision, complex simulation, and / or generative content purposes across various use cases.

This is a full-time, one year fellowship position with the option for a second year, with the potential opportunity to join Noblis as a full-time employee.

  • Must be willing to work on-site in a laboratory setting for at least 3 days a week.
  • Design and perform lab-based experiments.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advances in AI and machine learning (ML), to include but not limited to deep learning (CNNs/RNNs), generative adversarial networks (GANS), model test and evaluation, workflow automation, and training data set preparation.
  • Actively participate in scientific/industry symposium, conferences, and professional societies. 
  • Present at scientific conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute technical content to grants, proposals, white papers, and internal/external documents.
  • Rigorously follow, and suggest improvements to, Noblis’ responsible AI framework and ethical principles.
  • Work autonomously and in a team environment with a positive collegial attitude.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD. in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, statistics, information / data sciences or a related field and granted in the last 5 years
  • Extensive experience and/or education in one or more of the following areas: Deep learning algorithms / large language models (LLMs), model algorithm selection and development, natural language processing, multimedia processing and recognition, and/or computer vision.
  • A strong publication record, and a high interest in publishing new research papers.
  • Coding experience in one or more core languages (e.g., python, R, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to explain deep technical concepts to non-experts.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to propose and win independent research funding is a plus.
  • A high degree of ethical and scientific standards.
  • U.S. Citizenship 
  • Abaility to obtain and maintain needed security clearance

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and are based on full time status. Part time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements), and is just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package for employees.
