Position Overview 

Snorkel is seeking a People Specialist for a 6-month fixed term contract to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical role in shaping our company culture, supporting our employees, and ensuring that the employee lifecycle runs smoothly. You will work closely with the People team to create a positive and productive work environment for all Snorkelers across the organization, with a strong emphasis on refining HR policies, optimizing HRIS processes, and aligning immigration practices to business objectives. 

The compensation range for our preferred location of the SF Bay Area is $60 - $72/hour, depending on experience. We anticipate that the individual in this position will work 30-40 hours per week. 

Key Responsibilities

This role reports into the Director of People & Culture, and will focus on:

  • HR Policy Development: Support the creation, refinement, and implementation of comprehensive HR policies that align with our strategic objectives and foster a positive work environment.
  • Onboarding and Offboarding: Facilitate pre-onboarding processes for new hires. Manage the offboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition for departing employees.
  • HR Administration & Leave of Absence Management: Maintain employee records, handle personnel paperwork, and provide support as the first point of contact for employee’s HR-related inquiries. Manage all LOA requests in partnership with our leave management vendor (Tilt), and ensure employees have a point of contact to work with at every stage.
  • Benefits Administration: Assist in the communication and implementation of benefits changes during open enrollment and throughout the year. Partner with our brokers at Sequoia and ensure touchpoints with employees are available as needed.
  • Immigration Management: Ensure all employees on visas are well-supported and informed throughout their journey with us, from recruitment to offboarding. Collaborate with our external immigration lawyers to streamline and improve immigration processes, enabling business objectives and facilitating the seamless integration of international talent into the company.
  • Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensure Snorkel maintains compliance with all employment laws, regulations, and company policies. Provide guidance to employees on policy-related matters. 
  • Data Management & Report: Maintain accurate HRIS data and records, ensuring data confidentiality and security. Optimize workflow processes and generate reports as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR or people operations roles.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and trust-building skills.
  • Knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience managing immigration cases.
  • Proficiency in HR software and tools (Rippling and Lattice a plus).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong program management skill set and ability to measure and iterate
  • Familiarity with labor laws and regulations across the US - California and NY in particular.
  • Experience in fast-paced, tech-driven environments, preferably startups.
