Facebook’s Modern Recommendation System (MRS) team is seeking a quantitative researcher to unearth actionable insights to power the Discovery Engine, enabling state of the art recommendations experiences.
This role is an opportunity to lead a wide scope of impact and to be part of the future of social media by helping people better connect to the content they love through organic and serendipitous discovery and via active exploration.
As AI is applied across various platforms and products, this role will require you to proactively lead and collaborate with various UXRs and product teams at both Facebook and Instagram. You will partner with qualitative UXR, data science, data engineering, and engineering, driving our understanding of users, the content we recommend, and how we match that content to users in both expected and unexpected ways.

MRS AI Quantitative UXR Lead Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee primary and secondary research that better understands users, their interests & the content available on FB and IG to improve our recommendation algorithms & implicit understanding efforts
- Work closely with product and business teams to identify research topics
- Act as a thought leader in the domain of research, while advocating for the people who could use our products
- Effectively manage and prioritize research plans through ambiguous and fast-changing environments, align and efficiently execute critical insights and work with a large group of stakeholders
- Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of methods
- Design studies that address both user behavior and attitudes
- Design/develop and administer surveys to answer original research questions
- Retrieve relevant log data to analyze in conjunction with survey responses
- Ability to work independently and autonomously
- Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways
- Work cross-functionally with data science, data engineering, engineering, technical leads, and product management
- Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate ML models
- Advocate for improved user experiences based on understanding of product strategy, system capabilities and user needs
- Collaborate closely with other researchers
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 18+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree and 16+ years relevant experience, or a PhD and 12+ years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes experience within user experience, Human Computer Interaction, an applied research setting or a product research and development setting.
- Experience executing hands-on, primary research
- Experience translating research findings into strategic narratives
- Expertise / advanced knowledge of standard statistical analysis (e.g., descriptives, t-test, ANOVA, modeling, logistic regression) and programming languages (such as SAS, R/Stata, Python, SQL/Hive)
- Advanced knowledge of weighting survey data
- Experience with autonomy and independent decision making to weigh tradeoffs and balance demands
- Proven adept at working closely with Data Science and Data Engineering partners
- Track record influencing key leaders, stakeholders, and functional strategy
Preferred Qualifications
- Domain expertise in AI, ML Models, and/or Recommendations systems research
- Experience establishing UXR survey measurement programs
- Experience linking survey data with user behavioral data
- Experience analyzing and interpreting experimental effects on survey and behavioral data
- Experience identifying and validating behavioral proxies for user perception
- Expertise in Meta on-platform survey and analytics tools

$192,005/year to $265,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
