Safe Intelligence - this forms the core brand of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS. Connected cognitive systems drive innovation in many sectors, including mobility, healthcare, and automation in industry. Disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing play a key role here. Fraunhofer IKS is conducting research to ensure that these applications are reliable and verifiably safe. We consider resilience and intelligence to be part of the same process.
What you will do
The purpose of the thesis is to research, develop and implement an approach for adversarial attacks against point cloud-based Machine Learning (ML), that constitutes the foundation of 3D object detection based on sensing technology such as Lidar or Radar. Current 3D deep models are crucial in several industrial and automotive applications, however research on the robustness and the failure modes of those models has not seen as much attention as 2D object detection. With this thesis, the candidate will have to explore the existing literature on the subject of adversarial attacks against deep 3D models and based on that, work on a novel approach to find the pitfalls of current top-performing algorithms.
