How you can make your mark      

Are you passionate about Machine Learning and eager to learn and apply your skills in a leading global company? Join Boskalis for an exciting internship where you’ll dive into the world of offshore and dredging fleet technology.

Our fleets are equipped with advanced sensors that monitor everything from crane inclinations to vessel motions. Operating in challenging conditions, the sensors face dynamic and harsh environments, questioning their reliability. Experienced engineers can identify anomalies or trends, but they can’t monitor all incoming data constantly. That’s why we need innovative minds like yours to help optimize their performance. Your responsibilities as intern

• Work with engineers from the offshore and dredging divisions to identify the most important signals and processes for the various Boskalis fleets. 
• Research and develop efficient methods for classification, exploring both AI-based approaches and hybrid models which integrate physics-based principles with semi-supervised machine learning algorithms. 
• Develop and demonstrate the validity of your method.  
• Work with Boskalis engineers to deploy the solution on our ships, using edge and/or cloud computing. 

Your qualities     

• MSc students in the field of Computer Science, Data science, Signal Processing, Electrical Engineering, Dredging and Offshore Technology, or Artificial Intelligence.
• Good command of the Dutch and/or English language.
• Experience with using machine learning within Python.
• Strong analytical skills.
• A proactive attitude will really help you integrate within the team and company.

• Supervision and support from data science experts from the Data Science & Engineering department.
• Supervision and support from experts of the Dredging Production Department and Offshore Energy Production Department.
• Access to more than 10 years of one second time series data of the sensors onboard our fleets, stored in deltatables, for semi-supervised model training, validation, and performance evaluation. 
• Cloud infrastructure for training and deployment of AI models (Databricks). 
• Well-established development facilities (Python, source code control, packaging).
