Who we are:

Founded in 2017, Gatik is the leader in autonomous middle mile logistics. We deliver goods safely and efficiently using medium duty trucks with a focus on short-haul, B2B logistics for Fortune 500 customers such as Walmart and Loblaw. Gatik enables our customers to optimize their hub-and-spoke operations, enhance service levels and product flow across multiple locations while reducing labor costs and meeting an unprecedented expectation for faster deliveries.

About the role:

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented HR Manager in our Fleet Operations organization with experience in a transportation environment to manage all aspects of our HR operations across our North American locations. This individual will be a key player in partnering with Operations leadership in HR policies, compliance, payroll, HRIS and employee experience. As we prepare to scale significantly in our Fleet Organization, the HR Manager will actively support recruiting and onboarding fleet and operations talent, including truck drivers, mechanics and supervisory staff, either directly or in partnership with our Talent Acquisition team.

The HR Manager will champion a positive employee experience throughout the Operations area and ensure compliance with DOT & FMCSA driver-related regulations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in HR process management, employee relations, onboarding, policy development and compliance for a largely non-exempt work force. The role will also ensure adherence to federal - both US and Canada - regulations for commercial motor carriers.  The position will be responsible for HR excellence across our Operations units in the US and Canada.

This role is onsite five days per week in our Mountain View office.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with Gatik’s Vice President, Operations to design and implement a scalable, effective talent strategy - aligned with Gatik’s overall people strategy - to create a leading employee experience and deliver outstanding service to our fleet customers;
  • Lead day-to-day HR processes for our Fleet Operations organization while working closely with the HQ HR team to execute HR programs with a focus on employee engagement, operational excellence, managerial acumen and regulatory compliance;
  • Support fleet managers and supervisors in effective people practices including hiring, onboarding, management, offboarding and other key components of the employee experience.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of and payroll for hours worked in non-exempt positions across Fleet Operations including overtime, PTO, and holidays.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA and Canadian CMV carrier compliance requirements and standards, including ongoing compliance with driver qualification files and DOT drug testing protocols;
  • Keeps the Human Resources, Fleet Management and Safety team informed of outstanding Driver violations, as well as expiring licenses and DOT medical certificates.
  • Ensure all new employees, drivers and dispatchers are effectively onboarded and trained. Conducts in-person or online orientation for newly hired Fleet Operations employees.
  • Knowledgeably answer employee questions related to benefits, leaves and other HR programs;
  • Support the development and roll-out of training and policies that specifically relate to our Fleet Operations team and ensure ongoing compliance;
  • Provide day-to-day performance support to fleet operations managers and driver supervisors including coaching, counseling, and best practice guidance;
  • Lead and assist in investigations and incidents relating to the autonomous vehicle fleet and/or drivers including insurance, workers compensation, and process adherence;
  • Identify and address legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements affecting Human Resources (i.e. EEO, Wage & Hour, FMLA, ADA etc.) that are applicable to our operations;
  • Supports Fleet Operations leadership to develop, refine and publish driver-related materials, policies and other required documentation;
  • Draft, deliver, maintain, audit, and continuously improve HR-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) for our operations sites; and,
  • Promote and improve company culture, including supporting Gatik’s values, providing feedback to HQ and facilitating employee events.

What we're looking for:

  • Undergraduate bachelor's degree in human resources or equivalent practical experience;
  • A minimum of 5+ years of HR specialist or generalist experience in the Transportation, Logistics or Operations industry;
  • Expert level knowledge of FMCSA, DOT and state or provincial requirements for truck driver qualification;
  • A track record of personal accountability, strong work ethic, integrity, and proven organizational skills with attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to take initiative and build strong, productive relationships; and,
