We are looking for a versatile, curious, and energetic Director to join our team of passionate and dedicated engineers. We are the backbone for Data Engineering and Machine Learning developments at Visa and we embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale! As a Visa Director, you will work in a rapid-paced environment leading various Data and System Engineering teams developing next generation solutions for Visa. The Work Itself: 

This position is for a Director with solid development and people management experience who will focus on leading new capabilities for AI Platform while maturing our code base and development processes. We need a strong Data and Machine Learning System development and operations experience, who will contribute to both strategic and tactic planning and execution to continuously advance the AI Data Platform's vision and mission. In this position, you are first a hard-working and versatile engineering leader that can work in a multi-layered environment as a member of Agile scrum teams.

You will be an integral part of the leadership team, setting up technical roadmap, introducing the latest machine learning and system technology to the team, working with other development managers and teams to lead a team to resolve technical challenges, and working with different products and data science teams to streamline the feature request and model onboarding.

Essential Functions 

  • Provides framework and expertise for presenting technical solutions, capabilities, and features to stakeholders demonstrating how solution will support business strategy. 
  • Provides strategic vision for design and architecture documentation across products and sprints, leveraging existing architecture design patterns. 
  • Sets the strategy for identifying system, architecture, tools, and storage needs that support the requirements for the application across products. 
  • Understands people and hardware resource requirements and aligns across organizations to ensure requirements are met. 
  • Improves team processes so managers and senior engineers are equipped to ensure code meets quality standards, provides the technical vision for and establishes best practices. 
  • Establishes strategy to automate advanced data protocols, reduction techniques, and aggregation approaches to validate the quality of extracted data across the data pipeline. 
  • Anticipates issues and ensures that practices used to merge data into distributed systems, products, or tools are aligned across the organization. 
  • Oversees adherence to data management principles, governance, process, and tools to maintain quality across all projects.   
  • Champions best practices in testing to confirm functional capability of code. 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field. 
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in a leadership role with reports. 
  • 7 years of experience solving data problems using data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Redis, NoSQL, RDBMS). 
  • Five (5) years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining ETL pipelines. 
  • 3 years of experience building and pushing code into production. 
  • 3 years of experience implementing and supporting real-time systems. 

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 173,100.00 to 250,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
