POSITION TITLE:              CARDIAC CATHLAB TECHNICIAN 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL) Technician’s primary functions are: Set up, Run, Manage & Perform all duties related to Hemodynamic equipment set-up & monitoring, Trans-Cutaneous & Trans-venous Pacing, Operation of Defibrillator, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Intra-Vascular Ultra-Sound, ACT machine and Power injector in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL). To maintain all related equipment PM Service Log sheet and Competencies Checklists and File records to support this. 

Secondary functions pertain to Cross-training and achieving competence in the use and troubleshooting of Radiology equipment in the CCL and assume Aseptic Scrub Role as Physician assistant. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks ensuring effective functioning of the area.
  • Follows the chain of command in reporting incidents or concerns.
  • Prioritizes workload and completes correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Provides information to prospective customers and hospital staff by answering all specific inquiries regarding international patients’ queries.
  • Ensures safe working environment through strict compliance with Hospital Policy and Procedure regarding safety, infection and security.
  • Demonstrates skills in promoting effective patient flow through the CCL as related to duties of Technician.
  • Responsible for identifying need for maintenance of all radiology hemodynamic and related equipment.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others as is appropriate.
  • Identifies any special needs relating to the program.
  • Provides effective assistance in relation to the functioning of invasive cardiac procedures in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation following established standards.
  • Performs all duties of a Technologist pre, during and post procedure.
  • Assess educational needs and provides education to patients / families as appropriate and required.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities and maintains mandatory educational requirements.
  • Demonstrates problem solving / critical thinking skills.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team to provide best patient care.
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit committees / projects.
  • Participates in developing and achieving goals.
  • Performs additional duties when required. And as qualified.
  • Able to respond appropriately in all emergency situations. 
  • Works well under pressure and is able to perform all functions in relation to handling of equipment related to the duties and expectations of the team.
  • Ensures adequate stock control in the Cardiac Cath Lab including ordering and monitoring of stock and revenue recapture. Prepares Purchase requisitions. Keeps accurate records of stock movements for Cath Lab monitored items, Exchange Items and Consignment items. Reports problems promptly. Ensures no expired stock is on Cath Lab Shelves.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certificate/Diploma or Degree level, appropriate to position.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 years current experience in CCL environment.
  • Current ACLS & BLS Certification
  • Post graduate diploma, where applicable
  • Previous experience in a Private Healthcare institute is an asset. 
  • Current license to practice.
  • Post graduate diploma, where applicable
