We are looking for a highly driven and tech-savvy IP professional to take on the newly created role of AI Tools Lead for Patenting in the Portfolio Management unit of Nokia Technologies’ Patent Portfolio organization. An ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on experience from working with patents, a deep understanding of end-to-end patenting processes, a strong command of patenting and IP management tools and systems, experience from project management, and a keen interest in leveraging cutting-edge AI and automation technologies to augment and optimize processes and workflows in patenting and technical analysis. 

The AI Tools Lead for Patenting will play a crucial role in supporting the performance and growth of Nokia Technologies by driving quality and efficiency improvements and cost savings through the adoption of fit-for-purpose AI and automation systems and tools across the Patent Portfolio organization. The AI Tools Lead is responsible for leading and managing AI and automation tools scouting, screening and testing, development, and roll-out for patenting and technical analysis. The AI Tools Lead will also own the AI and automation roadmap for patenting and technical analysis use cases and capability development.

AI opportunity identification and prioritization

  • Analyzes existing processes and workflows to identify AI and automation opportunities
  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs, pain points, and opportunities
  • Creates a framework for tracking competence and tool / automation maturity in core processes
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop and transform processes and workflows
  • Creates and maintains a mapping of potential use cases to the end-to-end patenting processes
  • Develops and manages a coherent make-or-buy framework for AI and automation solutions
  • Defines and prioritizes use cases and requirements for AI and automation systems and tools
  • Owns the AI and automation roadmap for patenting and technical analysis use cases
  • Prioritizes and aligns the roadmap with the business objectives and stakeholder needs

AI solution scouting, screening, and testing

  • Scouts the market for available AI and automation tools for patenting and technical analysis
  • Screens the available offerings to identify the promising ones for further analysis and testing
  • Engages with external vendors and partners to understand their roadmaps and emerging solutions 
  • Conducts feasibility and cost-benefit analysis for the promising AI and automation solutions
  • Creates and maintains a mapping of available tools to the end-to-end patenting processes
  • Develops a structured framework for testing and benchmarking alternative tools and solutions
  • Manages and coordinates testing of the most promising AI and automation solutions
  • Prepares recommendations and decision-making materials for tool selection and development

AI solution deployment and roll-out

  • Leads the execution of the AI and automation roadmap for patenting and technical analysis
  • Drives the development and customization of tools to meet the needs of end-users
  • Ensures the quality, reliability, and scalability of the adopted AI and automation solutions
  • Manages and coordinates the roll-out of AI and automation tools to the end-users
  • Provides training and support to the end-users and champions the adoption of the solutions
  • Monitors and measures the usage, impact, and benefits of the adopted solutions
  • 6+ years of proven experience from working with patents (e.g. patenting, technical analysis)
  • Strong academic record with a master’s degree from a relevant technical field
  • Deep understanding of end-to-end patenting processes and workflows
  • Strong command of patenting and IP management tools and systems
  • Proven experience from managing multiple simultaneous workstreams or complex projects
  • Keen interest in leveraging cutting-edge AI and automation tools in patenting and technical analysis
  • Proven track-record of delivering excellent results in demanding fast-paced environments
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to operate effectively at different levels of abstraction
  • Team player with ability and drive to produce quality deliverables on tight deadlines
  • Impact-focused self-starter and completer-finisher with a pragmatic hands-on approach
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and communication skills in English

Other valued experience and capabilities:

  • Familiarity with AI and automation technologies and their application in patenting processes
  • Experience from IP licensing business in telecommunications or multimedia 
  • Qualification and hands-on experience as a patent attorney or patent agent
  • Experience from process development and transformation work
