Join the Mizuho team as the AI Risk Lead!
In this role you will support the Mizuho Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence and serve as the Chair of the AI Risk Forum to drive and influence prioritization, resourcing, and execution. Specifically, this role will include overseeing the end-to-end AI risk assessment process, ensuring the organization's comprehensive management of all AI-related risks. This pivotal role involves steering the AI forum and acting as a primary point of contact for AI risk.
Responsibilities:
AI Center of Excellence Leadership:
- Support the Head of AI & Robotics in setting the strategic direction for AI at Mizuho, ensuring a risk-based approach is embedded in the overall vision
- Lead AI Risk Forum, serving as the primary owner of the risk review with senior Risk Leadership
- Serve as a point of contact for the AI COE with Senior Stakeholders across the firm, especially within Risk (Risk, Legal, Technology, Front Office)
- Drive overall direction of COE for Risk and lead other resources (Project Manager, Risk Assessment PM)
Risk Management:
- Resolve Risk Program Manager escalations for specific use case issues and risks
- Manage the end-to-end AI risk assessment process to ensure all risks are thoroughly identified, evaluated, and mitigated.
- Conduct in-depth due diligence on AI use cases, identifying potential risks and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaborate closely with Program and Business Units to clarify risks, assessment findings, and mitigation plans.
- Propose and advocate for alternative solutions to risks or conditions identified during the risk assessment.
- Provide overarching recommendations and secure approvals on AI use case implementations based on thorough risk evaluation and business needs.
- Proactively communicate progress, issues, and results of risk assessments to stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Ensure continuous monitoring and reporting on new regulatory requirements that impact AI implementations
- Develop and mentor a supporting resource dedicated to AI risk assessments.
Use Case Management:
- Perform workforce management and assign Program Manager resources to use cases
- Define use case screening criteria in collaboration with Program Manager and SMAs
- Advise categorization, consolidation, and actioning of use case backlog, determining prioritization through consultation with SMAs and AI Risk Forum
- Communication prioritization outcomes and rationale to relevant stakeholders
- Define acceptable SLA ranges for each stage of the project
- Review outcomes / performance and devise continuous improvement areas
- Work with requestors to define / advise value realization methods and reporting best practices
Required Experience:
- Proven experience in governance, risk control, self-assessment, identifying and evaluating control measures, and compliance within financial services, particularly in AI or technology-related areas.
- Strong background in navigating product or tool development, specifically focusing on data, technology.
- Subject-matter expertise covering data governance, business analytics, data privacy, data security, and AI
- Leading teams at large, decentralized organizations
- Establishing and maintaining relationships between business and technical stakeholders
- Measuring incremental value creation, ideally from data related initiatives
- Evaluating and prioritizing strategic initiatives, related to Data and AI a plus
- Navigating competing stakeholder needs and driving alignment
Required Skills:
- Excellent team leadership, strategic advisory, stakeholder management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Expertise in Risk, primarily operational Risk, Compliance and Financial Services/AI-related regulations. Model Risk Management expertise a plus
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- High degree of ability for value creation & measurement
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Finance, Business, Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications in risk management or compliance
The expected base salary ranges from $105k-$180k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
